WARNING PREACHER: The World Will Hate You

Our Lord warned His followers from the very beginning that the world would hate us because they hated Him. The contrast of letting our lights shine by living in obedience to God’s Word throws a shadow over the people around us, and they will feel condemned by your righteousness, even if you never say a word to them.

You will be accused of being a hypocrite, a judge, or worse because your light will be visible to all. Please remember this, God never condemned Noah for the world refusing to listen to his warnings of judgment. God never encouraged Noah to build a bowling alley inside the ark and build friendly relationships. God called Noah to simply obey Him, warn others and build the ark.

I wonder how many people are in hell because they did not like Noah, the preacher? I wonder how many aimless and disobedient Christians exist today because they do not like the preacher God sent them? Did you ever compare this crazy idea to other situations in life? How many inmates get out of prison because they do not like the guards? How many get out of a speeding ticket because they do not like the police officer? How many get out of death and judgment because they do not like God?

“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

So the LORD said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” [Genesis 6:5-8 NKJV]

You realize your creator did not care if the world did not like Noah. He did! He also chose Noah to be the preacher and warn them of their doom, for all their wickedness.

“God didn’t spare the ancient world either. He brought the flood upon the world of ungodly people, but he protected Noah and seven other people. Noah was his messenger who told people about the kind of life that has God’s approval.” [2 Peter 2:5 GW]

Yes, Noah the “preacher of righteousness” was not liked in his day. He was not popular!

Even his relatives ignored him and did not like his message, his methods, and his constant preaching. They did not like the preacher (2 Peter 2:5). But, they are in hell forever because they did not like, nor listen to the preacher God sent them! I wonder how many people there were, back then?

Like the present time here in the USA, people of the past also did not like preachers! The Bible records that God acted by, “turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)” [2 Peter 2:6-8 GW]

What was their conduct that brought God’s angels to travel directly to Sodom to wipe it off the face of the earth? For one thing, homosexuality!

“He said, “Please, gentlemen, why don’t you come to my home and spend the night? {You can} wash your feet there. Then early tomorrow morning you can continue your journey.”

“No,” they answered, “we’d rather spend the night in the city square.”

But he insisted so strongly that they came with him and went into his home. He prepared a special dinner for them, baked some unleavened bread, and they ate. [4] Before they had gone to bed, all the young and old male citizens of Sodom surrounded the house. [5] They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to {stay with} you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” [Genesis 19:2-5 GW]

Lot frantically tried to save these strangers, not realizing they were angels and not really in danger. And to his credit, he fearlessly stood up to the whole city endangering his own family.

“Please, my friends, don’t be so wicked,” he said. “Look, I have two daughters who have never had sex. Why don’t you let me bring them out to you? Do whatever you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, since I’m responsible for them.” But the men yelled, “Get out of the way! This man came here to stay awhile. Now he wants to be our judge! We’re going to treat you worse than those men.” They pushed hard against Lot and lunged forward to break down the door.” [Genesis 19:7-9 GW]

Well, it is no obscure message here! The males wanted sex with the new males who came to town for a visit. This community was out of the closet and demanding a party! And the Bible illustrates that this sin is so wicked Lot was willing to give up his own daughters to rape, to keep these men from such a sexual encounter.

The Bible is clear the sodomites did not like this preacher either, and God destroyed their city in judgment. How many of them are in hell because they did not like Lot, the preacher?

God picks His servants and does not check with you to see if you will like them or not! He sends spokesmen to your city and churches and gives you His message as recorded straight from His revelation, the Bible. The sad record is just like Israel refused to follow God for most of its history, Americans feel they are religious and going to heaven according to their terms. They listen to the preachers they like and reject the ones that don’t suite them. The Bible records Israel’s history and it reveals rebellious Jews always liked the prophets that they picked BUT rejected the ones God sent.

Rebellious Jews always liked the prophets that they picked BUT rejected the ones God sent. God’s messengers were NOT POPULAR.

“Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. Therefore you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you. So you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the LORD their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.” [Jeremiah 7:25-28 NKJV]

Our God never condemned the prophets for the people rejecting His message of repentance. He never said they should have been nicer, more politically correct, or softer in their style.

The people’s choice was always listening to the preacher who gave a liberal interpretation of God’s kindness by excusing sin or being silent about their sin, and never demanding repentance or full obedience to God’s commands!

When they did this, the Lord warned them, “These are the lies that the prophets are telling in my name: They claim that I sent them, commanded them, and spoke to them. They dreamed up the visions they tell you. Their predictions are worthless. They are the products of their own imagination.” [Jeremiah 14:14 GW]

Notice they did not twist the scripture, but falsely claimed God sent them to His people. Then they showed softness and acceptance for all, instead of warnings of judgment. They gave positive messages of blessing, in spite of the people’s sin and disobedience. They would not confront the people about their rebellion!

Even our God and Savior Jesus Christ proclaimed in Luke 6:

22    Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man’s sake.

23    Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

24    “But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation.

25    Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep.

26    Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Today the evidence is in, our country is full of people just like there were in ancient Israel. “Evangelicals have long prided themselves on a commitment to biblical Christianity, to absolute truth—convictions that, they often point out, Mainline Protestants abandoned years ago. Yet, a Pew Research poll found a slight majority of those claiming the label “evangelical” believe that many religions lead to eternal life.” [Probe Ministries July 19, 2008]

The majority of “God’s people” have turned from God’s Word. Pew Research poll found a slight majority of those claiming the label “evangelical” believe that many religions lead to eternal life.

This is no surprise! God warns us in scripture, “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” [2 Tim 3:12-13 (NKJV)] In these last days it is not going to be easy to share the message of Jesus. And it will not be easy to even teach the biblical truth inside the local churches as “evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse.”

Will you stand up for the truth of God’s Word and speak the truth in love, or be silent and watch the world silence all God’s servants. Over one-half of the supposed strong and real church of Jesus has already left the faith by adding salvation for men without Jesus. And many churches and the culture surrounding us are already demanding that what they are doing is not evil and if you oppose them, you must be forcible silenced! The only hope for eternal life is still the same, “repent and follow Jesus.” But in our day most claim there are many ways to heaven, so stop being judgmental and become tolerate! The clash is here in America! Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me.”

Be prepared to be unpopular, but “love your enemies, and do good to those who despitefully use you.” Be diligent and continue your training and don’t be afraid. The Lord Jesus wants you to go “make disciples” even to the end of the age when the world will have great hatred toward God. But He already promised that He would be with us, and He has the power to keep His promises!

THE BIBLE’S ANSWER TO, “I CAN BE A CHRISTIAN AND NOT JOIN A LOCAL CHURCH!”
Randy Bell

Beware of self centered decisions. Your life is no longer yours as a new follower of Jesus, so you must immediately drop all ideas that you are in charge. Right now surrender all things into the hands of your new Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Forevermore, the Bible is your instruction manual and given to you by God Himself. And don’t forget this either, you must turn from all kinds of wrong ideas and sin. God will show you what to do in His Word, and what false ideas you must turn from. You need a fresh start in every aspect of your life so here is one false idea, of many, that you must flee from …

FALSE IDEA: “I’LL DECIDE MY WAY OF WORSHIP AND FAITH!”

Behind every statement that proclaims such nonsense is a defiant person who has not surrendered to God but lives for himself. Whoever claims the right to make up their own mind and choose their own religious practice is still on their way to hell.

Jesus calls to anyone that wants to follow him,Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.Luke 9:23-24 (NLT)

Admit it, this is the wicked proclamation of Americans in general. “No one tells me what to do!” “I decide if I like or want to go to church.” I have a private relationship with God and do not need church.”  “I decide whether I need church or God.” “I am my own master and I have the right to believe in God in my own way.” “Whatever way that makes me comfortable is okay with my God!”

NO IT IS NOT!  This is a lie that contradicts God’s Word. Everything is not up to your opinion. You cannot pick out your favorite verses and skip the rest.

The Bible says,  “…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” [Hebrews 10:25]

You must carefully study this statement from the book of Hebrews in the New Testament. The command is to not do like some hypocrites who are doing wrong by following this old lie of not joining together with the church. Please, please, please do not decide that only the portions of scripture that tell you how to get to heaven relate to you.

If you are attempting this line of reasoning then this is still a matter of you trying to play God, and not submitting to the Lord Jesus. Do not attempt to decide which scripture you like and do not like. This is a clear indication that you are lord over your life still, which leaves the Lord God your enemy.

The only friendship God will accept from a man is surrender and admission of rebellion to His authority and commands. And I assure you, God wants you acting like a humble servant, not a proud, know it all.

The whole idea of gathering together as a member of God’s team comes from God Himself. The word, “Forsake” is from a Greek word pronounced egkataleipoo. Thayer Greek Dictionary defines forsake:

1) abandon, desert

1a) leave in straits, leave helpless

1b) totally abandoned, utterly forsaken

2) to leave behind among, to leave surviving

We are commanded “Do not forsake” and this clearly means “do not desert and abandon your fellow Christians.”  And to be clear, the church is the called out people of this world who people called Christians but Jesus called “my church.”

“Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” Matthew 16:18 (NLT)

As Strong’s explains, “a calling out, i.e. (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both) :- assembly, church.” Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary

When you utterly forsake the local church of Christians you are disobeying the direct command of God to stick with and gather together with fellow narrow road followers of Jesus. In your pride, you are defying the Lord Jesus who you claim you love.

Not only that, we are further instructed that “Exhorting one another” is our role as a believer and follower of Jesus. This means to gather together [in a church gathering] to help and support each other by encouraging everyone to obey and serve Jesus Christ. This Bible section is talking to you and everyone who claims to be Christians!

You cannot personally “Beseech, Comfort, Exhort, Intreat” [Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary] other Christians unless you gather as commanded. It does not matter what technology is invented, the command is come gather into the same room and practice the Acts 2 fellowship.

“All scripture is inspired by God” and necessary for your spiritual success. Do you think only the promises of forgiveness are talking to you, but not the scripture passages on obedience and submitting to authority? You cannot possibly conclude that only the blessings are talking to you! You must call Christ your master.

Jesus asks, “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” [Luke 6:46] He already spoke to people who thought they could ignore God’s commands and  do things their way and by some twisted thinking believe they still would receive blessings, forgiveness, and eternal life from God.

So Jesus explains, “…Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” Matthew 24:23-27

Doing nothing means just that, ignoring Christ’s Words.

Maybe as a new believer you think you love God but can’t stand the “hypocrites” from the church because of some bad experience you had in the past. Somehow you may believe this is a good excuse, and you still think it is okay to not go to church.

God disagrees, “He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother [church people], is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”

If you are “born again” the Holy Spirit that entered you LOVES THE CHURCH and fills every true believer! They are your spiritual family, so stop stereotyping everybody.

Okay now you may be ready to say you don’t hate the church, but you just won’t go and submit to the local church’s authority. If you won’t show your love to them in this way then you are slandering, condemning and judging them. Again God says in His Word to you, “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

Now, if you really claim to be a Christian, God orders you to join the local church in your city and submit to His human authorities, and then work to build His kingdom. Your excuses are not good enough. You must obey God or, as the old saying goes, “change your ways or change your name!”

Kingdom Life Principles

There Is Only One Clear Way to God and Eternal Life in Heaven
Randy Bell, klptv.org
Randy Bell

A long, long time ago the Creator of the Universe dealt with a rebellion in His kingdom. His close servant and trusted friend determined he would no longer take orders from God Almighty. ⅓ of all His other subjects joined him in a mass rebellion that ended with them being cast out of heaven forever. They were temporarily placed into darkness, left for the time being until they would be permanently placed into a terrible prison. This place was designed for them, not men. But later men also rebelled in the exact same way.

So the Bible says, “He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” [Matt 25:41 (NKJV)].

Why is there a hell? It is simple, for justice and fairness. Eternal beings are given eternal punishment. Crime must be punished.

Think of yourself driving down a street texting and not fully watching the road, you look up after typing a long phrase too late to see a child in your path. You kill her. You did not mean it! It was an accident. The parents should understand?

The police come and arrest you for seriously breaking the law. Your intentions do not matter. Your past good life does not count even though all your friends believe you are a good person, and all the good deeds you have done before do not erase this one terrible negligence on your part. You now must face the judge.

This one action, one event, has changed everything in your life forever.

Your day in court comes and you face the parents of the dead little girl. The judge enters and calls everyone to attention and your crimes are read aloud for all to hear. You did not take this day seriously and decided to defend yourself without a lawyer.

You have a decision to make. You ask to approach the bench and give the judge many compliments to butter him up. You then offer a deal. “I promise to wash your car everyday for the rest of my life if you will call it even.”

Angered the judge blurts out, “The girl’s life is worth far more than a car wash. How dare you insult this court and the child’s parents. Step back from me you wicked idiot!”

“Wait!’ you give a counter proposal. “I will give you a shoe shine each week. And cut the parent’s lawn twice a month.”

“You killed their child and you think that is fair?” screamed the judge.

Okay, okay I will give you $5000 and the parents $10,000, which is all I have!” You know that has to be a good deal and turn to get your debit card.

The judge firmly states, “Stop, there is only one thing valuable enough for your crime. Your life! You have cheapened life to mere money and little acts of kindness. Life is far too valuable. I sentence you to be executed.”

False religion always tries to cheat just like this. Like the devil and all his demons we “… all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” [Romans 3:23 (NKJV)] Sin is a criminal act of breaking the law of God and leaving the results of pain, hurt and destruction on others as real as killing that little girl. God hates all crime and does not want any person treated anyway except through love.

In God’s court all crime has one verdict and punishment. “For the wages of sin is death” [Romans 6:23 (NKJV)]. Spiritual crime is so outrageous in God’s eyes He will not tolerate any weaker punishment than what He already levied against the devil and his angels because he has to be fair. He would be a crooked judge and a criminal himself if He favored His friends or others.

False religion tries to bribe God for acceptance, blessings and eternal life. False believers try to earn their way to heaven on their terms. They think doing good deeds like being a community organizer or helping poor people earns them the name of Christian.

How could being a nice person to everyone be good enough for God? In spite of God’s view of rebellion and sin, people think they get to heaven by being good people according to their own judgment, and do not get serious about God’s moral law and rules.

False religion tries to make a way to God in their way and by their terms.

Strict fundamental belief in God’s Word is not false religion. Strong convictions that God’s Bible is absolutely true and must be followed is not false religion.

There is a clear difference between law abiding citizens and active criminals here in America. Citizens are able to obey the law. They are expected to obey the law. But criminals break the law and are punished and their rights are removed by the judge.

But remember God says all have sinned [committed crimes] and are guilty before the Eternal Judge. Because the first man and woman rebelled also, no one can follow God’s Law today since now we are all born without the strength to obey it. God looks us all in the eyes and judges us guilty criminals by His just Laws. We can’t get around this!

Let’s go back to our courtroom. If false religion tries to bribe the judge, what is true religion? After the judge gives the verdict of the death penalty, a clamor comes from behind you. In walks a man, and the judge asks, “What is it my son?”

“Father, I will give you my life instead of this guilty, wicked person standing before you. Then fairness will stand and your honor preserved. Life for a life, and the true value of the crime will be paid. Then the devil and all his slaves will never be able to point their fingers in your face and call you an unfair hypocrite.”

The Judge loves His Son Jesus, but gives His approval. He allows His son to be executed for your crime and the crimes of everyone because His son never broke the law. He was totally innocent.

This is true religion, justice fulfilled, but mercy given to guilty criminals. But, He makes His ruling with a very narrow application. This gift of forgiveness will only be given with the following stipulations:

1/ No one who claims they are a good person will ever enter His eternal heaven.

Only His Law will be the judgment of right and wrong. His Law will expose their crimes, and their “good” intentions and motives will not matter.

“There is no one righteous, not even one. 11 There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away; all alike have become useless. There is no one who does what is good, not even one. 13 Their throat is an open grave; they deceive with their tongues. Vipers’ venom is under their lips. 14 Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and wretchedness are in their paths, 17 and the path of peace they have not known. 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

19 Now we know that whatever the law says speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment. 20 For no one will be justified in His sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin ⌊comes⌋ through the law. [Romans 3:10-20 (HCSB)]

2/ Everyone wanting a relationship with God, the Creator and Judge, must approach Him on His terms not theirs.

His will and nature are clearly revealed in the Holy Bible, nowhere else. To find God you do not need to search the world, you only need to read His love letter to you.

THE NARROW GATE TO OBTAIN FORGIVENESS IS REPENTANCE – this is the only gate or way to God and heaven

“Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” [John 14:6 (NLT)]

Jesus preaches to everyone, “Repent ( change your mind for the better, heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” [Matt 4:17 (AMP)]

Peter explains, “Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins.” [Acts 2:38 (NLT)]

HERE IS HOW TO REPENT

1/ THE LAW OF GOD MUST BE EXAMINED AND FACED JUST LIKE YOU WOULD IN A COURTROOM [Exodus 20, Matthew 5-7, Galatians 5, Ephesians 2]- Why? because the law of God produces guilt

“Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.” [Romans 3:19 (NLT)]

“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” [Gal 5:19-21 (NLT)]

2/ RESPOND TO THE GUILTY VERDICT WITH FULL ADMISSION OF YOUR SPECIFIC CRIMES, FOLLOWED WITH DEEP SADNESS – Why? because guilt produces godly sorrow

“Come close to God and he will come close to you. Realize that you have sinned and get your hands clean again. Realize that you have been disloyal and get your hearts made true once more. As you come close to God you should be deeply sorry, you should be grieved, you should even be in tears. Your laughter will have to become mourning, your high spirits will have to become heartfelt dejection. You will have to feel very small in the sight of God before he will set you on your feet once more.” James 4:8 (Phillips NT)

3/ FULLY REPENT AND FOLLOW [LIKE A SLAVE] JESUS, YOUR NEW LORD – Why? because only deep godly sorrow produces true repentance

“For godly grief and the pain God is permitted to direct, produce a repentance that leads and contributes to salvation and deliverance from evil, and it never brings regret; but worldly grief (the hopeless sorrow that is characteristic of the pagan world) is deadly [breeding and ending in death].“ [2 Cor 7:10 (AMP)]

“Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.” [Eph 4:28 (AMP)]

True repentance means first to stop your crime, and in our example of a thief that is only the first step because this is only partial repentance. Next, the thief must get a job and earn his money. But this is still partial repentance because it does not deal with the heart of the sin, GREED. A greedy person steals and cheats, but a fearful or careful greedy person just works hard to stuff his own pockets. Here the Bible explains that true and full repentance is only proven when the ex-thief makes a 180 and  joyfully gives some of his hard earned money to needy people. He no longer takes but turns around and gives.

AN EXAMPLE PRAYER WOULD BE LIKE THIS

Dear God,

I realize you are my Creator, the Almighty God, and the only one who is good and fair. Because of this you have the power to establish the law of the world, and the authority to tell me what is right and what is wrong. So I now bow to your authority and justice. I admit have broken your law _____________ [fill in the blank], and I am sick with sadness in how I have acted.

Please, please forgive me! I now understand your love and mercy so I accept your offer of forgiveness through Jesus dying in the place of my judgment. I turn from all the crimes I am practicing, I have no excuses, And I now am grateful for your mercy. Father in heaven, I choose to please You and follow my Lord Jesus by obedience to His commands all my days.

THE NARROW ROAD OF OBEDIENCE – YOU ARE EXPECTED TO LEAVE THE LIFE OF CRIME AND OBEY FROM THIS DAY FORWARD – THIS IS THE NARROW ROAD

Your new lifestyle begins with Christ’s words, “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” [Matt 7:12 (NLT)]

So be careful Jesus warns many will try to make the way to heaven easier than the narrow way of repentance. “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” [Matt 7:21-27 (NLT)]

Also Jesus explained the narrow way of life his followers take, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” [Matt 22:37-40 (NLT)]

BUT WHAT IF I FAIL? YOU MAY AT FIRST, BUT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE GOD’S MIGHTY GRACE THAT GIVES YOU NEW DESIRES AND STRENGTH TO OBEY YOUR NEW LORD

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. [1 John 2:1-7 (NLT)]

Give yourself a break at first and remember you are a new baby in the faith. When babies learn to walk it takes time and even when you are older you may fall down, but it is less and less of an issue over time. Don’t be discouraged, you will find God’s strength because He gives His Holy Spirit to you and you gain the power to obey consistently. Give God time to work inside you, trust Him.

Read your Bible start with John and Matthew 5-7. Find a church that teaches the Bible literally, because you will find friends that will help and encourage you. But be careful there are false preachers that will try to deceive you.

Does Doctrine Matter?

If you drift through the modern American churches it will not take long to hear the echo of “…doctrine is not important, it just divides the church. Let’s unite and show God’s love!” But God’s Word disagrees.

2 John 1:9-10  NKJV “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

This new tolerance message proclaims “all brothers are equal before God anyway, and it is pride that demands one group or denomination is right, condemning the others.” Well, John makes it Biblical, true doctrine is supposed to divide [verse 10]! We are not talking about small issues that are not clearly defined in scripture, but the plain truth.

Our Lord has strong emotional feelings about wrong doctrine. Rev. 2:14-15 quotes Jesus as saying, “But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. [15] Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.” [NKJV] Since Jesus Christ hates wrong doctrine, he warns those believers who do not care about His doctrine to “Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth” [Rev. 2:16].

Doctrine is such an important issue with God He warns us He will fight us if we do not follow His teaching. It seems doctrine is important!

Since John makes it clear in our text that anyone who does not live out the doctrine of Christ is going to hell whether religious or not, believing and living out Christ’s teaching is significant and non-optional [verse 9]. You would not know it from our modern churches.

Barna research shows just 9% of the adults claiming to be born again have a biblical worldview. This falls to 7% of Protestants in general. This is based on the doctrine that absolute moral truth exists and founded on six core beliefs: the accuracy of Bible teaching, the sinless nature of the Lord Jesus, the literal existence of the devil, the all knowing and all powerfulness of God, salvation by the mercy and grace of God alone, and the responsibility of each Christian to obey the great commission.

This is further explored through pastoral leadership. Southern Baptist pastors are the most Biblical [71%], other Baptist churches were next [57%], then followed non-denominational Protestant pastors [51%], charismatic and Pentecostal [44%], pastors of black churches [35%], leading mainline denominations [28%] and United Methodist [27%]. [Read the whole report, Only Half of Protestant Pastors Have a Biblical View,  online at Barna.org.]

The immoral choices and practices of the majority of church attendees are now clearly exposed!

Since the majority of pastors reject doctrinal truth they do not call people to repentance and obedience to God’s doctrinal standards. Paul commands preachers to “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [4] and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” [2 Tim. 4:2-4 NKJV].

Since less than 10% of adult church members want to live Biblical lives, pastors who rebuke and exhort their congregations to absolute truth and obedience are not going to be popular or have jobs.

Here is some proof. A ChristianMingle survey showed 89% of self-identified Christian singles who answered the survey said they are having or will have sex before marriage.

According to Barna, over 90% of those claiming to be born again say the Word of God does not influence how they live their lives.

Instead, Paul warns us, “You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!” 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NLT)

As the majority of pastors preach false comfort and eternal life without obedience, people feel good about themselves. Rejecting the absolute commands of Christ and His Word the congregations live their lives satisfying their own desires and feel comfortable and safe believing the fable that they are going to heaven too! This always starts with false ideas and teaching and then is lived out in lifestyle.  This is seen in what is preached, but also in what is ignored! Does your pastor rebuke and exhort you on a regular basis? Or do you like [your own selfish desires] the quiet encouraging type?

For example, false doctrinal teaching about marriage, divorce, and sexual activity outside of marriage [one man and one woman] throw stumbling blocks before this nation. Broken homes permanently harm children emotionally and leave bitterness and frustration. The government pays out billions of dollars trying to support single moms and their children. Billions are spent on insurance and medical expenses for sexually transmitted diseases. Millions of babies are murdered through abortions. All this because people ignore God’s loving commands protecting and providing life in a better way. Is doctrine important?

Doctrine is the Foundation of Life Change!

All scripture” is given to us by God to change our life styles after we are born again in Christ. The “apostles’ doctrine” [Acts 2:42] was based on Christ’s commands, not suggestions [Matthew 28:20]. One of the earliest documents of the church is a pass around work called “The Didache of the Apostles,” which is the Greek word for doctrine. Paul commanded all Christians to change, beginning with right doctrine, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” [Romans 12:2].

“Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters [authorities], to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, [10] not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

[11] For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, [12] teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts [selfish desires], we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, [13] looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, [14] who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. [15] Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

[3:1] Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, [2] to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. [3] For we ourselves were also once [past not present] foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. [4] But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, [5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, [6] whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, [7] that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. [8] This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men” [Titus 2:9-3:8 NKJ].

What Steps Should You Take to Please God?

First, if you are under the teaching of a pastor or church that is not teaching the whole absolute truth of God leave. “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him.” But you say, “I like my church!” I know you are protesting because your friends and family are there. Or you might have already decided the Biblical church is boring, the music is dead, the pastor preaches too long, etc. Repent! “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them” [Romans 16:17].

Then, join a Biblical church and take responsibility. “…be careful to maintain good works.” The people of your city are going to hell! It is not what you like that matters, join a team of believers who are fulfilling God’s purposes and get busy.
